Day 22: Enjoying Grief
At Christmas our thoughts often turn to those we’ve lost.
Just last week I was playing with our spaniel Cab in the park.
It was cold and breezy so we pretty much had the space to ourselves. A woman was walking the diagonal path beside us and clearly taking an interest.
‘What a lovely boy, can I say hello?’
‘ Of course’ I said
Cab obliged waggily.
I could see and sense that she was very moved.
‘He’s a lovely boy, we lost ours in January and watching you two really reminded me of him’
She wiped away a few tears, we chatted some more.
At some point we talked about the presence of grief and loss being the other side of the coin of all the joy we’d experienced in the past.
It looks to me that the feeling of grief and loss could be an invitation to flip the coin and experience the joy of remembrance.
Worth a try?
Much love.
