We are naturally designed to get over things
We have all seen someone overcome something that looked impossible to them. Be it illness, grief, job loss, relationships ending, people always seem to come out on the other side. Often, we are in awe at their strength. We assign it to a part of them that is special, perhaps something that we don’t have access to. Part thrilled and part puzzled we wonder…how do I get a bit of that?
We are taught that resilience is something we need to acquire. A skill to cultivate through experiencing the challenges of life. In truth, resilience is something to be uncovered. It’s an innate part of the human design, an intelligence and strength we are born with, giving us a bounce-back quality, no matter what we are facing.
There is an invulnerable essence to us all that cannot be damaged, bent or broken. An unbreakable spark of life that, whether we know it or not, has our back throughout anything we come up against.
It’s as though we are born as diamonds. Strong, beautiful, and powerful. As we navigate through life, we can lose sight of this, rolling around in the mud of the false assumption that we don’t already have everything we need within us. Then one day we look down and wonder what happened. We used to be so shiny, so strong. So, we proceed to stick on whatever shiny, sparkly jewels we think might help us appear stronger. This might look like it has worked at first but if any of the jewels fall off we feel exposed and vulnerable – unable to survive the blow and destined to a life with a piece of us missing.
What we have forgotten, is that underneath it all lies that perfect diamond. Unbreakable and invulnerable gifting us resilience as it’s by-product.
When we realise the belief that we are broken and fragile is simply a misunderstanding, we open our minds up to see the potential that lies underneath.
Our resilience is innate – not contingent on doing or learning anything - we only need to discover it. Then we can put down our worry about the future, stop picking at the scab of the past and let our natural design for success show us we can heal, bounce back, and move on.
How would you approach things differently if you knew you were invulnerable?
