The ordinariness of being extraordinary.
AKA you're not special, unless everyone else is.
What would happen if you realised you weren't special? Not in a self-deprecating, hiding your light way, but in a way that released you from your obligations to your self-image that held you back from being fully present and open?
All too often we get over-invested in our story about ourselves and believe that our flaws and our strengths are what defines us, and that our character is fixed, we tell ourselves "I'm the kind of person who," and lo and behold we are. We have become special in our own minds, and in doing so have subconsciously separated ourselves from others and limited our own potential to what we think about ourselves.
special
/ˈspɛʃ(ə)l/
better, greater, or otherwise different from what is usual.
belonging specifically to a particular person or place.
Our experience of life IS special - personal and unique to us. But it is also completely ordinary - every one of us has this unique gift. Take a look around and you'll notice that everyone shares the same mechanism and intelligence that creates their hopes, fears, dreams, creativity and life experience. Our character, identity and habits evolve and adapt to our circumstances, we learn, we rise to the occasion - and mostly we don't even notice it.
When our minds are pointed at what differentiates us i.e. what makes us special, we forget that we are all connected to, and part of, the intelligence of life, something far more extra-ordinary than our small version of specialness we've created in our minds.
Feelings of anxiety and insecurity arise when we mistakenly think we have to protect, defend and ratify this self image in our minds, rather than relaxing our minds and letting the intelligence within them flow.
There's a relief that comes with realising that you don't have to live up to your specialness (which someone should definitely share with Jose Morinho). Whatever you think about yourself that defines you, whether it's good, bad or indifferent, it's made of thought, and can change, it is not you.
What's constant about you is the intelligence within you that creates all thought and awareness and will continue to do so in service of you.
