Day 6: The innate gift of learning
What is something you've learnt that has surprised or delighted you?
For me, it's dance. I have recently re-joined a class after a long hiatus and have gone on a joyful learning curve of moving my body differently and picking up choreography.
Something that strikes me is how easily I learn in this class. I surprise myself each week with a new style I'd never attempted before or a new move I've never done with a profound lack of worry! What's more, I can see my classmates doing the exact same thing.
Those who haven't danced before might look wide eyed, if a little terrified to start, but as soon as they get up and try it out they learn the choreography with the same ease and perhaps even more joy than the experienced dancers.
I wonder if learning anything could look as joyful.
The wisdom here is how we learn, not what we have learnt or the steps we took to learn it! Someone could tell me verbally how to do the routine 1000 times but until I try it out for myself, I won't get my own learning.
We are built to learn. We learn to walk, ride a bike, drive, play instruments. and use excel. We also learn how to get the best out of our colleagues, comfort a friend and keep our children safe - and we do it all through insight.
By showing up to what we are doing we get insights about it that move us forward. There's a joyful comfort in that.
