Day 14: Love and Human Bluetooth (Open Source)

We've often referred to the deep connection that exists in the operating system of all human beings and appears to be always on - if we can get out of the way and tune in. When we are in our relaxed and settled default state we have access to this simple, powerful, pure and empathetic connection and all that it brings; its source is love. We all have access to this open source, human bluetooth, it's built in and it's powered by love.

Nice theory. Is there any evidence? Well apparently our heartbeats synchronise even with people we don't know!

In 2016 we were at an Edinburgh Fringe show The Inevitable Heartbreak of Gavin Plimsole where audience members were asked to wear heart monitors as an open experiment in steering the plot of the show.  At one point it was mentioned that audience members tend to 'tune in' to each other and their heartbeats synchronise.

Intrigued by this we've often quoted this remark so we thought we'd explore a little further, amongst other interesting accounts we found this article from UCL (2017) which points to the power to connect with others on a deep level.

"New research led by the UCL Division of Psychological and Language Sciences (PaLS) has found that watching a live theatre performance can synchronize your heartbeat with other people in audience, regardless of if  (sic) you know them or not."

So we connect with strangers in a theatre, not just at the level of a shared experience, but emotionally, physically and we suggest...spiritually.
